  • by Staff Writers

Finding a holiday destination that suits both parents and children can be tough, and all too often children are left bored by a lack of child friendly activities or treated as a nuisance by staff more used to adult visitors.

But kid friendly vacations do exist and provide vacations that the whole family can enjoy. Read on for a guide to the 10 best vacation spots for kids in the world.

1. Orlando, Florida

What could make a better kid friendly vacation than a trip to the theme park capital of the world, Orlando? With Disney Land, Universal Studios, and Sea World all located nearby you’ll never be short of activities guaranteed to keep the kids happy.

Most of the parks have accommodation options, and for a real treat we suggest staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom lodge which gives you the experience of an African safari. All of this, combined with Florida’s miles of beautiful beaches, combines to make Orlando hard to beat for a memorable family vacation.

2. The Bahamas

Beautiful beaches, tropical weather and jaw dropping scenery make the Bahamas a great holiday destination for all. For a kid friendly spin, the Atlantis Resort and Casino re creates the famous lost continent and allows your kids to explore it to their heart’s content. Pools, water slides, private beaches, and a huge aquarium should keep the little ones more than happy.

3. New York City, USA

For a holiday to suit tiny culture vultures, it is hard to beat New York City. With a large proportion of the world’s best museums, excellent shopping, and fantastic green spaces packed into the tiny island of Manhattan you will never be short of activities to keep the family entertained. Take a boat ride to the Statue of Liberty, have a picnic in Central Park, and ride the elevator to the top of the empire state building.

After all of that activity, you will be happy to relax in one of New York’s famous delis.

4. Cancun, Mexico

This Mexican beach town may be famous as the party destination of choice for American spring breakers, but don’t let that reputation diminish its potential for an outstanding family holiday. While there is no doubt that during the 2 weeks of spring break Cancun can be a little raucous, for the remaining 50 weeks of the year it is wonderfully kid friendly.

It’s combination of stunning beaches to play on, ancient Mayan ruins to explore, and water parks and aquariums to enjoy ensure that families will have wonderful experiences of this fantastic resort.

5. Hawaii, USA

For a winning combination of tropical beaches, fascinating history, and magnificent volcanic scenery, head to Hawaii. See some of the world’s most active volcanoes, come face to face with pacific sea life at one of the impressive aquariums, or marvel at the views from Oahu’s Diamond Head crater.

No trip to the 50th state could be complete without trying out Hawaii’s favourite sport, surfing. The pacific ocean throws some serious waves at these tiny islands, making it a paradise for surf thrill seekers. But if you and your family are new to the sport, the smaller sheltered beaches dotted around the islands are the ideal places to learn.

6. Boston, USA

For vibrant culture, history at every turn, and some of the USA’s biggest sports teams, head to the beautiful city of Boston. Boston is home to a wide range of unusual and quirky museums, including the intriguing sounding museum of bad art. For a more conventional chunk of culture, try one of the many museums and sites dedicated to the American Revolution which had its roots in the region.

7. Athens, Greece

History is everywhere you look in the Greek capital, and kids will delight in seeing the real life versions of buildings they have only seen in cartoons. The Acropolis and the Parthenon are amazingly preserved examples of ancient Greek structures, and seeing them in the flesh can help history come alive. Should the sight seeing get a bit too much, there are many islands and beach resorts within easy reach of the city.

8. Copenhagen, Denmark

If your kids are Disney super fans and mad for fairy tales, why not take a family trip to the home of the Little Mermaid and her creator Hans Christian Anderson? The Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen harbour is iconic and makes a great starting point to a tour of this lovely city.

The best way to see the sights of Copenhagen is by bike and the city is incredibly safe for cycling, meaning that little ones can peddle along without danger. In the City centre you will find Tivoli gardens, a lovely garden and theme park where you can enjoy the views as much as the rides.

9. Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are home to Europe’s biggest aqua park, which is guaranteed to give your kids a fun filled day out. You can also take trips around the islands in glass bottomed boats which give you an unparalleled view of the area’s breath taking marine life.
